During World Cleanup Day 2024, we engaged with 728 students and children who made up 10% of the total participants. SEEP Tanzania engaged 320 students from four schools in Dar es Salaam located in Temeke where we introduced the SEEP Tanzania program. These schools are Temeke Secondary, Veterinari Primary, Sandali Primary, and Mary Our Hope Pre & Primary. These schools are ready to be part of SEEP Tanzania which is digitizing learning and providing tools for students and teachers. The event combined community cleanup, education awareness, and entertainment.
During the event, SEEP mentors led a diverse group of students in a hands-on cleanup across their communities. The students’ efforts resulted in the collection of 294 waste bags, weighing a total of 2,008.02 kg. By involving schools in these activities, SEEP demonstrated that the younger generation can be both a driving force for immediate action and long-term change. As the students participated in this hands-on cleanup, they also became part of a larger global movement dedicated to reducing environmental waste
However, SEEP’s mission extends beyond cleanups, as the organization focuses on long-term education and the digital empowerment of students and teachers. As part of SEEP’s broader mission, these schools are involved in a digitization program that provides students and teachers with free tools and resources. By incorporating technology into their learning, students are not only becoming stewards of the environment but are also gaining access to a modern, digitally-driven educational framework.
In an era where technology drives global transformation, its role in environmental conservation cannot be overstated. Digital tools like the SEEP platform enable real-time data collection, enhanced communication, and widespread awareness campaigns that can amplify environmental action. For instance, SEEP’s digitized learning platform equips students with the knowledge and skills necessary to understand and address environmental challenges. With access to online resources, students can explore global environmental issues and engage in local solutions through the lens of sustainability. Through digital education, students become more informed and motivated to take action just as they did during World Cleanup Day 2024.
Merging technology with environmental stewardship, SEEP Tanzania and its partners are setting the stage for a future where education and sustainability go hand in hand. SEEP’s digitization program is proudly funded by the Republic of Estonia, the ministry of Climate in collaboration with the Let’s Do It Foundation, demonstrating their commitment to both innovation and environmental sustainability. Estonia’s support for the digitization of education in Tanzania exemplifies how international partnerships can drive meaningful progress.
